With average annual rainfall of 2,400 mm, Singapore (1) is one of the rainiest cities in the world and is exposed, therefore, to frequent risks of flooding. But Singapore is also faced with water shortages, due to its geographical position and the density of its population. These two phenomena are accentuated by an unpredictable climate, made worse by climate change.

SUEZ and the Singapore Public Utilities Board (PUB) addressed this issue together by developing the AQUADVANCED® Urban Drainage digital solution.
The solution has been installed in PUB’s facilities, including the Marina Barrage (2), which plays a key role in protecting the City-State’s hydric independence. This real-time monitoring system provides decision-support in order to optimise the operation of the dam, measures the quality of the city’s water and anticipates the flow and the levels in the reservoirs and channels (3). It uses both the weather forecasts and the data collected by the sensors near the channels and reservoirs, which is all sent to a single control panel. Designed for users, AQUADVANCED® Urban Drainage provides precise recommendations adapted to operators’ needs.
There is no longer a shadow of doubt that resource management in Singapore already depends on the digitalisation of services and infrastructures.
